‘I came here to write a fairy tale so imagine my surprise when I found myself in such a story complete with stone towers, iridescent hummingbirds, clerical vestments and guinea-pig sandwiches.

Hacienda Cusin is a restored, early 19th. century country home of a successful farming family. The often more than two-day horseride from Quito encouraged visiting family and friends to extend their visits. Cusin became an informal hotel, a home, just as it is today. Hacienda Cusin dining rooms, main, 38 guests. Sala Boliva 20 guests. El Monasterio de Cusin dining room, 80 guests. 1 dining room, 10 guests. Christmas Eve fiesta: main garden patio cocktails, musicians & folklorica dance, choir, dinner with wine, $45 per person. New Year’s Eve fiesta: cocktails, dinner/wine, dance, traditional ‘old year’ effigy bonfire, fireworks, $45 per person.

Cusin’s Menus

Breakfast is a magnificent, waiter-served, traditional meal that includes freshly squeezed fruit juice, cereal, eggs and Cusin-made toast and jam. Lunch and dinner. Ecuadorian and international three-course menus offer daily changing choices of soup, salad, meat, fish and a vegetarian dishes followed by desert choices and coffee. Wine-list available. Café Cusin menu, smaller and less expensive, offers sandwiches, soup, an elaborate salad, Ensalada de Cusin, soup, omelettes, etc. Drinks & coffee bar, near the dining room, with a roaring fireplace. Barbeques and dances, accompanied by folklorica music and dancing can be managed for 100 guests on Cusin’s main lawn. Weddings can be managed for up 200 guests
